All Happy and Gay?

At the recent Golden Globes or what some Hollywood big stars are nicknaming it the "Gay Globes". With Brokeback Mountain have four nods from the people at HFPA. It won Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Song. Whats the movie about? Gay Cowboys. The Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama went to Felicity Huffman for her role in Transamerica as a man who becomes a woman. And Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama went to Philip Seymour Hoffman for his portray of gay writer Truman Capote in the movie Capote. Mmm.... All happy and gay (no pun intended). Well back to the first movie ABC gave Brokeback Mountain 5/5 stars so it must be good. If have the time do watch it. BTW it isa currently banned in a few countries. Need to check your city if it is screening. While the Best TV Series - Drama went to LOST. And Best TV Series - Comedy or Musical went to Desperate Housewives. Both I have watched and felt that they were both great.

Now about another movie Memoirs of a Geisha. Sad to say SBS gave it only 2/5 stars. They commented that the movie was pulled down by bad script and poor acting. What to do? They wanted to do it in english and they got 3 great asian stars but their first language which is not english played a part to mars the whole project. From a great book comes a movie that is not that great. But why did the company wanted to do it in english at first? Just like the M. Butterfly that I recently watched at Opera House the setting is in Japan but they spoke in Italian. Feels weird. Well we will have to think about the box office taking don't we? It is all about making money. I think it will be the same for the movie. All the settings are in Japan but they are all speaking english. They also stated that the movie fail to look in to the Japanese culture as the book went in much more in detail. One more factor how come the male actors are all Japs but the female cast are all Chinese? I went very disappointed as I have read the book 5 years ago an felt that it was one of the best I have even read but it seems that the movie will not live up to it. But I must sure watch it first. But one thing is for sure as with the opera the movie will have backgrounds, backdrops, props that are breathtaking. This I can be sure...
