晴天和尚

It has been raining day in day out. Oh! Where is the sun? Oh how I miss you. I want to "bake" myself. Don't a sun kissed bod look great? Ok ok... Not the burnt look. But the golden brown kind. Doesn't it radiate a healthy glow? It makes a good-looking person even more appealing so much more attractive. Mmm... I may be going a be over here but for "slim" people like me to have a light brown skin is way way better than have pale white skin. Cause it turn it will make me look sickly. I may not be a tanaholic (yet.) But at times it really gives me the relax feeling. It seems that I am not alone.

With studies, dermatologists have found out that, tanning makes the skin give off endorphins. Which are chemicals released from the brain, that produce euphoric like feeling in the body. Endorphins are often referred to as our bodies natural morphine, reducing the pain we usually feel. These compounds make a person feel good on a "high" feeling. They are the also the reason endurance runners report of a "runner's high." So could there really be such a thing as tanner's high?

So when issit that tanning can become and addiction? It seems that if you tan about 8 to 15 times a month and do it between 10am till 4pm then you may be hooked on tanning! Or as the people out there call it, Tanorexia. Thank god! During those times I am usually working so not time to tan. Even if I am free I usually find that it is too hot during those times. And I usually only "purposely" go and tan about once a month. So I am long way off from being an addict. Yes, UV rays may give you vitamin D. But there is a limit to everything. Studies have shown that about 10 mins of sunlight per day could reduce the chances of get cardiology illness. Of course I know it can lead to the big "C". Well maybe I should start using spray on tans and bronzing cosmetics.

On a lighter note, was driving today nearly had an accident with a SHOPPING CART. Yes, a cart. It was pushed by this aunt, who rammed it so fast in a near head on collision with the car. There I was just stopping there by the zebra crossing waiting for people to cross. And there she came off the crossing onto the road and was trying to to push her cart between the car and the wall. The space is really not enough for both car and cart. In the end I had to reverse to let her have her way. (In case I have to answer for any scratches on the car.)

On the last note I am in love with Moonlight Resonance.

No matter what color...

After 47 years, we got one. Color? Does not matter. Proud to see the flag.

Am I becoming One?

I really do think I am. I am lost as in what to do to prevent such an outcome. But at times the mind is weak and the body is strong. I really need to rethink on what I should do. At times, with out knowing it I will have done it.

Is 5th good enough?

Oh course! To me. That is on the world stage 5th. Not some neighborhood competition. Of course a medal would have been great after such a long time. But the with all the pressure build up we should understand. With our tiny island and small population (comparing to other much bigger countries) As long as she have given all that she has, I truly felt that she has done well. With our Sports School up that will come a day where we can do it. Really. On our own. Next up for us is the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010. But just before that to sort of test the system or a practice session is the Asian Youth Games in 2009, which will be between July 2 - 10. The YOG will have about 26 sports and 3,600 athletes, while the AYG will have about 1,000 athletes between the ages of 14 - 18. For those that may not be, so what should we say, sporty may try for the YOG logo competition.

Now for 4th. Yes! UNSW Asia left? Never mind. We can have our own. Our 4th fourth public-funded university will open its doors in 2011. In the first year it will take in about 500 students and increase this intake gradually till it hits 2,500. In 2015 it will located to Upper Changi Road East, next to the Changi Business Park. The plot of land, approximately 22.6 hectares, was previously set aside for the University of New South Wales Singapore campus. It is close to the current Expo MRT station and will be served also by the future Circle Line in 2016. It will also be served by both ECP and PIE. The interim campus location is not know yet. The cost of this? No budget has been set yet but is expected to run up to hundreds of millions of dollars. The effect? Limitless. Good with name? Then you can name this new, yet to be named, currently nameless or AKA 4th Uni here.

In food, Krispy Kreme will be in KL, Malaysia! By next year we can savour the famous glazed doughnuts. This is made possible by Berjaya Corporation Bhd, which will own 70% of unit rest being owned by Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation. The Corporation which also holds the franchise rights for Starbucks, Kenny Rogers and Wendy's plans to add 20 stores in Malaysia to the about 490 Krispy Kreme stores worldwide.

Mmm... wonder will/can one store come to Sunny Island? I WANT MINE KRISPY KREME!

Let the Games Begin...

In less than 24 hours the Games will begin. Yes. It is finally here. I will be skipping my session to watch the opening of the Games. Hope it will not be a wasted effort. I did have a sneak peak thanks to youtube and SBS as previous post. Oh yes. Also on 08/08/08 we will be having a special toto draw. And the prize money? You guess it! A cool 8 million. Wah! Wonder who will be the lucky one or ones. Do wish me luck.

In the mail today I received the IKEA 2009 catalogue. This serves to remind me that more the half the year has passed. This is the 11th edition that I have.(I sort of have collected all the catalogue since 1998. Just some useless crazy hobby of mine.)

In the world of DS, the cool people at Nintendo seem to have gotten to the max on R4. They have together with the games developing powerhouses like SNK, Capcom, Square Enix, Tecmo, Capcom, Namco Bandai, SEGA, Altus and
46 others launched a lawsuit in Tokyo District Court, Japan against R4. Well R4 is a device that allows for one to play games that are not from the actual source. R4 and others like it have been around for quite some time. In other news, after food, yoga, balancing, guitar etc with the DS. Whats next? Sega has teamed up with Japanese cosmetics maker Shiseido to develop Project Beauty, a DS beauty consultant. Seems that is will be priced at about 6,090 yen. What can the japanese think of next to be on the DS? keep you fingers crossed.

Seems the brown cat could not do it again. What a loser. Could not ask again. Never? How would I know?

The red pepper seems fine now but now there is also the green bunch, which is so very dried and yellow now.

The Last Lap

In less then a week times will be the Opening Show for the Beijing Summer Olympic 2008 or the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. But seems that things are not all that rosy.

Firstly the pre Olympic problems that caused some problems with the route and along the route of the flame. Then the air quality of the skies of Beijing having reached unacceptable standards. Recently some freedom of press issues. Followed by the
changes in visa rules. Also the alge boom and the locust problem. And now a video of the top secret opening ceremony by the famous director Zhang Yimou has leaked out. The clip filmed from the Bird's Nest by a S Korean station SBS, leaked out images of the closely guarded show. The clip of about 2 min is quite an eye-opener. Imagine all those 15,000 performers never breath a word to a soul till SBS manage to film the controversial report.

We should maybe give China a break. After winning the rights to host the Games on 13 July 2001, they have bee trying quite hard to host a good game. Build stadiums, buildings, theater airport, train routes, roads. Trying to clear the air, helping the residents of Beijing to lose some of their bad habits. Well I really do hope that they can deliver a good game from Aug 8 till Aug 24.

Some tech news...

Watch out Google, here comes Wikia from the people who brought us Wikipedia. According to them their way of search is different from the usual algorithm-driven like Google or Yahoo. But is based on a freely-licensed open source, where users can enter to change anything. Thus allowing you to add a webby to the search results if you think that it is relevant. Seems that you can tamper with it to promote (spam style) your own goods. but the friendly people at Wiki are working on it.

Next up is cuil which was launched early this week. They claims "Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft." With a small team of 30 people not bad rite. The founders are a group of ex-Google employees who promises that they will not keep any data about you. No name, No IP, No cookies. No search history stored/kept. They believe that analyzing the Web rather than the users or superficial popularity metrics. (Ohh... Touchy.) BTW in case you were wondering Cuil is an old Irish word for knowledge.

Before I close this post let me say a big THANKS to the people in white. (Mmm... Ok maybe they come in many colours now. Like light green, purple, blue etc) Well it is International Nurses Day.
