Why Don't I put a Smile On That Face.

Yes... During the weekend watched "The Dark Knight". It is quite good I would say. But a tad too long. The director Christopher Nolan did quite a good job, I must say. Both Batman Begins and the current are great movies. After I googled him then did I realise that he also directed Insomnia and Memento, both movies which I also like truly. (If you have not watched the movie you may not want to continue reading.)

Many of the characters main cast played their character quite well. Other than Heath Ledger great performance as Joker. (Mmm... A really dark portray of Joker. A Oscar worth performance?) Morgan Freeman (as Lucius) , Gary Oldman ( as Lt. James), Michael Caine ( as Alfred) , Aaron Eckhart (as Harvey/Two-Face) and of course Michael Caine ( as Bruce/Batman). All which I think did a great job in fleshing out their roles. Erm but personally did not quite like Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel. Felt that it lacked something. But could not really pinpoint down what that is. Oh there is a actor from our shores, that is Chin Han who plays the role Lau the Hong Kong the businessman who help the mafia to "account" for their money. Still not sure who? The one who appears in a telly in the movie to have a teleconference with the mafia in the kitchen of some sort and Joker appears starts to chat with them and makes a pen "disappear". Well he appears for quite a few scenes you can't quite miss him.

But that could not be said for the other guy who was in a "photo" scandal. The quite well-known Edison Chen. If you blink you are sure (guarantee plus chop with 5 year warranty) to miss him. So much about the role. I thought he was playing a "real" role in movie when he left HK to start afresh in Hollywood. Anyone could have done it. It is not even on the screen for more then what like 3 secs. So did you catch him in the movie? Still drawing a blank... Why? Cause the role he played does not even register in your mind. Ok let you in on it. He is the one who meets Morgan Freeman on the tarmac (this is a really far shot) and then the next scene is when he tell Morgan that the building has a no phone policy and he has to surrender his phone. It is like super short. You could not quite get him face before it is gone. I think even the security guards of Lau' building got more screen time. I must add that I am not sure if any have been edited out during the post production of the movie.

I would like to end off with I truly enjoyed the movie worth the ticket price in and at least a 4/5. To me the best part of the movie was the two ferry part. Great storyline showing hoe crazy the Joker was. Oh wonder will there be a third? What villains? I wonder...

At one with Nature

After a mind boogieing, hectic, frustrating, lost few weeks, I decided to go and try the new (maybe not so new) park link. That links Harbourfront on the way to West Coast Park. Well I can only say it is not linked. After you link to Science Park, you are no longer in any parks. Through NUS and Science Park, you must hike yourself with no instructions. If that is the case I felt that the papers should not have reported to make it sound like the whole stretch is all linked. Ok ... More on the good side now. The Harbourfront to HortPark was quite nice. Quite scenic.

The Marang Trail was a little on the steep side. But NParks have made at some parts a steeper and a less steep paths which is good. At to top of Mt Faber, you can see over the whole of HarbourFront and Sentosa. Now comes the wee bit difficult part. As some parts of the Faber Walk is not marked, You need a little luck plus good eyes to spot the very temporary black signs that NParks have put up to direct you to the Henderson Waves, which is 36m above sea level. There from our island highest pedestrian bridge you can see good views of the city and the southern islands. The bridge design is also quite unique. Then you will reach the Hill Top walk, again signage is a problem. Following that is the steel 1.3km elevated walk. Or you can choose to walk the Earth trail. This part is also not too bad. Slower you pace and enjoy the views. Breath in the fresh air. Finally crossing the Alex Arch will bring you to HortPark. At HortPark you can see much landscaped garden, edutainment, book a function room and also a thai restaurant.

Overall the park links is quite nice. Bring you into part you never knew (still) existed. But the signage is a problem. And also I feel that for some parts of the walk for example the Forest and the Hilltop Walks, we may have to give the trees a little more time to recover from the damage that the sustained during the building of the walks. I am sure give a few years, with much care given and us give less abuse to nature. They will recover well enough and then the ridges walk will be an even better walk to go to, to bring oneself closer to nature. To be one with nature.

Read the fine print.

I was out window grocery shopping at this major supermarket shop. Then I saw this toothpaste on offer. It was $2 off the usual price. As you people should have known when I do grocery shopping I try and try my best to only buy things that are on offer. Else not I will whip out mine handy handphone calculator to make sure I am getting the best offer. Yah I know very "uncle". I have gotten into this habit while I was studying in Aust. And as a student money matters. Every single cent counts. At times the different packaging could be misleading, causing one to think that he is making a saving but not so. At time buying in bulk may seem cheaper but not always. So always depend on the trusty app in the handphone called the calculator. Oh technology! How can i do without you.

Anyway back to the toothpaste stuff. I then calculated ensuring that is was a good deal. When I paid then I realise that the offer price was only for "members". Shit. Ok it was not that expansive. But felt so cheated. Went back to look at the self. Then did I realise that I could not blame the shop. They did put up a notice just that it was a little small. Not to mention folded, behind the HUGE offer word. What to do could only say I was at fault I did not read the fine print...

STCC '08

Last weekend I went with some friends to STCC '08. Wah! It was super packed. I really do mean super packed. On the first day of the convention which was like in hall 603 we queued till hall 601. The people who went there like 8 plus for the event that only starts at 11am. All for a limited edition be@rbrick.

Well other then the crowd the fair was not too bad. Nice cosplay people appeared. Like those from Legion 501 of Star Wars, games and some other Jap comics like naruto, bleach and D.Grayman. Some I must say were not that good. Other really take u aback with the details in the costume that they are wearing.

Even with the huge black wings that one of the cosplay man was doning on, it cannot beat other in countries in japan or even tawain. But who am I to judge? I for one do not cosplay, (dou I hope to). Second I have never been to japan to see their cosplay. But I would say give us a chance. Cause anyway this year was the first. And it was a little small scale compared to those in other countries. The gounds outside the fair was not big enough for the cosplay people to mingle. For toki doki no space to be snappy frantic. Too small a space. Fans was too happy to see the graphic artists.

Really...overall only the crowd control was a tad not good or maybe I should say bad. Else all was good to go. Coming again next year? Well we will have to wait and see. I may just be a tag too old.
