Asterix and Obelix

The other day watched Astérix et Obélix contre César(1999) on SBS directed by Claude Zidi based on the comic books created by René Goscinny(1926-1977) and Albert Uderzo(1927- ) in 1959 till present day.. It was not too bad at a filming cost of $48 million US it better had a bit of "punch". Lasting for about 109 mins. They also did a ok job in recreating everything as close as to the comic as possible. The cast looked like those in the book, they dress the same even the props very similar to those drawn in the books. Only problem was that it was in French and I do not understand a word of it. Spend the time reading the subtitles but overall lacking a bit had some fun watching it. Not forgeting to mention that the plot is a cut and paste of several plots into one.

There seem to have a follow up movie Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre(2002) with a even bigger filming cost of $47 million US. Reviews have stated that it was better then the previous ones. Both movies are done up in French then later dubbed in German. Funny thing is that the second movie is also dubbed in Arabic, Cantonese and Latin. Why Cantonese? A check with the distribution does not states Hong Kong, China, Malaysia. Mmm....wonder who did they dubbed movie in Cantonese for?

Anyway went to Borders and read Asterix and the Falling Sky(2005) the latest in the series. Seems to be lacking something can't say what it is but just not like the same as the previous titles. Well the translaters have to be busy again as it needs to be translated into more than 100++ languages. This comic is so successful in France that in 1989 Parc Asterix opened it doors. It is located between Sortie 7 and Sortie 8 on Motorway A1 towards Lille about 30 kms away from the city of Paris with 31 attractions and 6 shows. The damage needed to enter is 33 euros (Big Gaul) and 23 euros (Little Gaul) for a one day pass or 62 euros and 42 euros for a 2 day pass. Well when I have the $$ really do hope to visit it. That adds one more theme park to visit in France is I ever do go there, the other being Disneyland.

The book Asterix and the Falling Sky(2005) being the no 33 in the series with it's many puns and relations, reflections to the USA had been rumored to be the last...
